7000 years. Archaeological remains

13th October - 4th March 2007

From the collection of Max von Mörl at Runkelstein Castle.

In the days before the collection of ancient objects was strictly regulated, the local historian Max von Mörl (1904 - 1985) collected a wealth of items from the area of Bolzano, especially the hills on the opposite side of the Adige in the surroundings of Eppan.

This area with its superb climate has throughout history been the place of choice for nobles and well-to-do country gentlemen to settle in, evidenced by the numerous castles it was deemed necessary to build in medieval times to guard over the orchards and vineyards.

As such it has yielded up a rich treasure of archaeological finds, some of the most impressive of which can be seen in this exhibition documenting the history of Bolzano and its environs over the past 7000 years.
